| [headnote again: this is an archived one from one of my other blogs on the net. i wrote this about two weeks ago. it pisses me off that i had to shrink the pics below and lose the good resolution in order to make them fit. oh well, figures. late.]
in a fit of loneliness, i moved operations back home for the week (i.e. with the folks in arc.) as classes are finally over. it's a logical and pragmatic approach too, as i had only one class earlier this week--which turned out was a review session for a final that will be open-book, open-note. so why spend that time down in the OC by myself when i could be home-home with tons o' food, actual tv, and a laundry set-up that doesn't cost me $2.50 each time. finals prep is the veritable chore in these short days before x-mas but this semester's prep has drastically differed from previous ones. probably because i have only two finals at this point--one that's open-sesame and the other is solely multiple choice and for an ethics class for which i've already taken a national exam, an exam that i passed with flying colors. ironically the final for that class is supposed to be a mock simulation of the national exam. go figure.
so instead my days have been filled with long walks with el canine jack-in-the-box; lots of cooking; working on some short stories; browsing the aisles of borders, whole foods, & trader joes; and then, oh yeah, finals prep.
i've passed hubris at this point--in fact i bypassed it getting here, never even saw its bloated face. no, i'm not purposely trying to risk it; i'm still taking my law school finals seriously, but i can't somehow avoid reasoning that this is Providence giving me a long-overdue, creative break before i have to gear up for the bar--an easier-to-bear finals time (for a change, i hope) especially after the stupid, exhausting run-around i was faced with when school started, which turned this semester (in the supposedly easy, cruise-on-by 3L year, no less) into the very worst, heinous semester of law school of all. but now the lion with its obnoxious roar has gone and in place someone has carted in a sleeping lamb. zzzzzzz--
some pics of what i've gotten myself into this week, all culinary: (1) grilled mozzarella sandwich; (2) tomato & garlic soup garnished with sour cream, herbs, & puff pastry crouton (1) & (2) steamed bok choy flashed with garlic infused oil (1) a quick lunch: buttered noodles with parmigianno & sea salt; (2) afternoon snack: grilled rustic ciabatta rubbed with whole garlic and drizzled with cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil, sea salt, and cracked pepper (1) my successfully reversed-engineered-version of souplantation's big chunk chicken noodle (minus the noodles); (2) my favorite garnish for the week (1) big chunk chicken + farfalle; (2) big chunk chicken farfalle + a poached egg (1) & (2) spicy tuna sashimi salad with avocado, greek yogurt, olive oil, & chives (1) roast chicken & gravy & mashed potatoes; (2) roast chicken & gravy & mashed potatoes + turnip & spinach greens sauteed with caramelized onions & garlic & walnuts (1) close up on the greens; (2) all done! | | |
| [headnote: i feel like i've neglected my xanga blog. but it's because i've been blogging elsewhere--first, myspace for a while, but now i'm on blogspot so what seems like for good. anywho, just to keep this blog kicking, here's a recent thanksgiving myspace posting . . .] this was me choosing between two ties to wear to my recent interview for a judicial externship with the california court of appeal. i chose the black-and-silver one after deciding that the other one--aptly named "el vintage"--was too hip even though it was the tie my dad wore at his wedding in 1975.
good gracious: and it was THE BEST interview of my life. after the initial pleasantries, the research attorney (or le interviewer), who works for the presiding justice on the court abandoned the expected law-talk (oh, how do you like whittier? how is law review?) and we embarked on a literary exchange where i was forced (well, not really) to drop names like herodotus, the oxfordians, and south park's TIMMAY. needless to say, i've never had an interview, where i was hired on the spot while the interviewer was in middle of a sentence about vincent price's theater of violence. of course, i think the research attorney had been prepped by a little birdy--my good friend, a.--about my previous, more-literary way of being. seriously though, it will be such an awesome job.
on other fronts, after reviewing 3,057 footnotes (from a combined 10 articles) since feb., i have citechecked/final reviewed/whatever my last footnote for this semester as exec. editor on l. rev. thankfully, it was an easy "Id." cite (see insert), but the article was fun. now i'm officially on thanksgiving time which was highlighted today by a nap in the middle of the afternoon that lasted for nearly three hours and then a lazy browse through various pasadena bookstores.
